The Union of Catholic Mothers,

whose aim is to follow the full Christian ideal of marriage and family life, was founded in 1913 to unite Catholic married women in England.

In 1942 the U.C.M. was established in Scotland and today has branches in the diocese of St. Andrew’s and Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunkeld, Motherwell, Paisley and Galloway.

The Sacred Heart branch was founded at a meeting of mothers in the Bellshill home of Mrs. Jane Dempsey on 30th of August 1957 and today has over thirty members.
